POSTPARTUM
-
I think of a postpartum doula as a foundation that a woman can rely on during those tender first weeks after the birth. When I support new families, I focus on everything needed to ensure smooth postpartum recovery for mama (both physical and mental), through loving touch, nutritious postpartum meals and herbs, baby care tips, light household, yoga stretches and meditations, as well as helpful resources.
There are usually two parts to my approach:
There’s the prep work that we do together based on your expectations and priorities. I make sure you have all your resources lined up, your nest set up, your pantry stocked with all the most nutrient-dense foods (both for your optimal physical recovery and to support your mental health), and your support system in place. That way when the baby arrives you will have everything you need at your fingertips and can focus on healing and bonding with the little one.
The second half is the actual hands-on postpartum support when the baby arrives. This part usually involves making sure you get plenty of rest while I take care of baby, cook delicious nutritious meals to support your recovery and lactation, make herbal infusions to help your perineum and uterus heal, take care of laundry and other light household chores. We also do gentle stretches and meditations when the time comes, and address anything else that may come up mentally, emotionally, physically, or with your little one, including latch and breastfeeding (if that’s a priority for you).
I find that every postpartum family is unique, so let me know if it’s helpful to chat on the phone to get a better idea of what you are looking for and how I can support you best.
